Developer Notes: Learning To Read Chinese Using Primezero’s Hanzi To Pinyin Converter

August 30, 2008 – 2:12 pm

from my Developer Notes:

One of the cool things you can do with the Primezero Hanzi To Pinyin Converter is practice reading articles in Chinese.

When I first started learning Chinese, I used NJStar. However, it was not convenient to install NJStar CJK Word Processor to simply view a Hanzi To Pinyin Conversion of a simple text clipping.

So, I created my own Hanzi To Pinyin Converter.

It is still in development but you can try out some conversions now. I want this conversion utility to provide users the following features for now:

  1. Simple copy, paste and conversion functionality.
  2. Ability to copy and paste the converted Hanzi and pinyin into Microsoft Word documents and other applications for further annotation.
  3. Ability to jump over to the Primezero i18n Terminal to research individual characters and similar words.
  4. Flexibility to meet user requests for new features with extensibility baked into the code design.
