Google released a chat bot that translates chat from English to Chinese

This isn’t a new service: just a different interface to their translation engine. If Google had an open API for its translation system this would have been completed within a month by someone outside the Googleplex.
Right now two things put Google ahead of the pack in machine translation: (1) Franz Och and (2) massive quantities of parallel texts. The game changes when either one of those does.
