Tips for Sharing Chinese Study Lists with Primezero Chinese Tools

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

So, you finally found a platform on which you can simply share your vocabulary lists. Wonderful. Now what?

Well, I have a few tips to help you get started sharing words and phrases using the Primezero Chinese Tools and Google Spreadsheets.

Tip #1: Relax.
Before you sit down to create and share your study lists, make a nice cup of coffee or green tea. Turn on some music and just relax. In my experience, translation is easy when the brain is calm and tranquil.

Tip #2: Don’t worry about making mistakes.
Do not aim for perfection. Perfection is subjective, so your interpretation of perfection may not be understood by me or the server. :)

Tip #3: Invite your friends.
Share your Google Spreadsheets with friends and allow multiple users to contribute to the study lists. (The more, the merrier.) Studying with your friends is a terrific way to build a useful study list.

Tip #4: Keep it simple ….or traditional.
Enter either Simplified or Traditional Chinese characters for each entry. Not Both. You can use both simplified and traditional forms in your study list, but you do not need to enter the long form and short form for each entry.

Tip #5: Have fun!
Think about all the people you will be helping by sharing your study lists.

Share Chinese Study Lists Using Google Spreadsheets

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

There are two main purposes of Primezero Chinese Tools: share and search.

Nothing new. Right?

Well, my hope is to provide Chinese native speakers and language learners a new way to share and search Chinese vocabulary and study lists.

Sharing your vocab lists is easily done in three easy steps.

First, you create your own vocab list in Google Spreadsheets. You can upload an exisiting Excel spreadsheet or start one from scratch. Google Spreadsheets is wonderful because more than one person can collaborate on the same vocab list.

Also, you don’t need to add pinyin or romanization. The Primezero Adding Tool automatically converts the Chinese Characters into pinyin for you.

Next, you can publish your Google Spreadsheet in a few clicks. You can publish your work-in-progress, that can be automatically re-published upon any changes. This is a super feature as your vocab list is available online to be index by Primezero Chinese Tools immediately.

step2 publish the list with google spreadsheets

Finally, you submit your web address to the Primezero Adding Tool for indexing.

I am currently working on live-editing tools, but for now you need to wait a few hours for the adding tool to integrate your vocab lists into Primezero Chinese Tools search.
